Now that I've got my PSBank prepaid credit card (Mastercard), I decided to try it on this popular Chinese online store called AliExpress.
Merchants at that store often offer Free Shipping to the United States. I would rather have my purchases sent either to a my sister who lives there OR to this courier in Los Angeles that will forward my purchases to Manila. I've had bad experiences dealing with Customs Tax officials here in the Philippines (Quezon City) that I'd rather avoid experiencing it ever again.
My very first purchases at AliExpress was a dress and a pair of faux leather pants/leggings, gifts for my sister who was going to celebrate her birthday in a few months.
There were four things I really wanted to find out from this first purchase: (1) are the merchants really reliable, (2) will my prepaid credit card remain safe, (3) how long will shipping from China to the USA take, and (4) is ordering from AliExpress simple or complicated?
I bought the 2 items in different stores. In case one seller wasn't reliable I wouldn't really be put-off with other merchants. Both items arrived, by the way, both in good condition. In hindsight, it was kind of stressful not informing my sister what would be arriving when I've planned them to be 'surprise gifts'. Eventually I did inform her to be on the lookout for 2 packages arriving from China.
Here are the 2 items I purchased, with some details and a short review for each:
Casual Bodycon Dress
Size: Large (stretchable)
Price: $10.78
Store: Center-Mall
Seller: Emy Chen
I liked this seller. You usually get an email from AliExpress about your payment being processed and another email telling you that the seller has shipped your item. Emy Chen, the seller, was kind enough to send an additional email informing me that she has indeed shipped my item and telling me how to track the shipment. So far (many AliExpress purchases later), she is still the only seller who has done this. I definitely appreciated this especially since this is my first purchase and the AliExpress email isn't exactly detailed.
I only saw the dress (and also the leggings) personally a couple of months after it was delivered. It stayed in the US so I was able to give a review/feedback only when I took my US vacation in April.
The dress is made in a spandex-like material. It's not thick but it's not transparent-thin when slightly stretched. Surprisingly I found it to be well made and sufficient for casual wear. I saw my sister wear it once and it definitely fits taller ladies, like her, better. The dress was held up by good stitching and I didn't notice any loose or hanging threads.
For a $10.78 casual dress, I'd give it 4-5 stars.
Black Faux Leather Leggings

Black Faux Leather Leggings
Size: Extra Large (XL)
Price: $5.99
Store: East International Knitting Co., Ltd.
Seller: Lan FanMeng
Don't ever expect leather-like materials for clothing tagged as leggings. This was really just stretchable spandex-like materials made as leggings, as I've expected. It has a metallic sheen on it that makes it seem like leather. Don't be fooled by the thin material though, because it definitely looks better when you put it on, rather than when you look at it attached to a hanger. I tried it on once, and I've got thick thighs, but it still looked good.
I'd give it 4-5 stars as well.
