I hate pigeons.
Ever since one flew into our backyard and carried the distemper virus that killed FOUR of our dogs I realized I'll never ever look at a pigeon the same way again.
*By the way, it was the Veterinarian who concluded that the pigeon carried the virus. Not me.
Anyway, what would I know about things like that? I could only rely on what the animal expert can say upon the matter. The only animal I've been taking care of my whole life are dogs.
So when a Pigeon, with a tag on its leg, dropped into our backyard again right after New Year's eve I just thought 'Nope. Not again."
How cruel could its owner have been to release their pigeons during New Year's Eve when all the fireworks are in the sky for so many hours? I thought that the fireworks were the reason why he wasn't flying himself (or herself) home. So I let it be.. as long as it kept away from my remaining dogs.
After a few days, the pigeon was still in our backyard. I finally figured that this pigeon couldn't fly on its own because of its own weight. It was indeed fat and looked quite heavy. It didn't look injured at all. I tried researching on who to call or what to do for a pigeon who's lost. Unfortunately, I came out empty-handed.
A few days more and the pigeon was gone. I'm happy that my dogs were still safe after its visit. A lot of cleaning was needed though, because it kept pooping all over where my dogs usually likes to stray.
Looking back, wish I could've done more for him, though. There's not much information on what to do. There's a Philippine Homing Pigeon Association but I couldn't access their contact numbers on their website. And besides, it was still a Holiday, I doubt anybody would pick up.
